Columbus, Ohio – The Transylvania indoor track and field team continued its trek through the 2019 season by competing in the Jessica Starks Open hosted by Capital University at the Capital University Field House on Saturday.
The Pioneers got off to a quick start in the jumps competitions on Saturday as Junior Rian Boelter claimed first place in the women's triple jump event with a final jump of 10.00 meters. Senior Malik Jackson finished second in the men's triple jump event with a final jump of 13.08 meters
"Rian won the triple jump again, which means she is undefeated in the event so far this season," commented head coach Taylor Throckmorton. "Between that and Malik placing second in the men's triple jump and extending his own conference leading mark, we had a great day in the jumps. That is an event group that we will lean on at the conference championship, so it's great to see them continue to have strong showings."
The Pioneers' second victory of the day came via the team of junior Danielle Blount, senior Olivia Kee, and freshmen Edie Meyer and Taylor Allen, which came from behind to win the women's 4 x 400 meter relay race in thrilling fashion.
"The 4 x 400 was a really exciting way to end the day," said Throckmorton. "Taylor Allen had a phenomenal anchor leg and kicked down two other teams in the final hundred meters to seal the win."
The Transylvania women's team finished the day in fifth place overall with 33 total points, while the men's team finished 13th with 15 total points.
"Ultimately, things are progressing well as we move out of the early part of the season and closer to championship meets," said Throckmorton. "I'm eager to keep competing and chasing better and better marks."
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, February 2 as they travel to Granville, Ohio for the Bob Shannon Invitational, hosted by Denison University.
