Delaware, Ohio –The Transylvania women's tennis team completed its opening weekend trip to Ohio with another intense day of play at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational at the Luttinger Family Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers picked up from where they left off on Saturday, compiling a record of 7-2 in singles play and 3-2 in their doubles matches against opponents from Ohio Wesleyan and Franciscan on Sunday afternoon.
Porsche Robinson claimed a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Estelle Leon from Franciscan, and later teamed with Jessica Burton to take an 8-3 doubles victory. Burton also prevailed 6-1, 6-0 over Zoey Stapleton from Franciscan in her singles match on Sunday afternoon.
Also picking up a convincing victory for the Pioneers was senior Merrick Irwin, who prevailed 6-3, 6-1 over Franciscan's Grace Hammel.
Transylvania women's tennis head coach Bill Carey was pleased with the results produced by his Pioneers on Sunday. "We enjoyed a subtly dominant day today, winning the majority of our matches," remarked Carey. "An added bonus was the opportunity to form a friendly rivalry with Franciscan, whom we will play next year over spring break."
Up next, the Pioneers will open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 14 when they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to face the Manchester University Spartans. The match is set for a 12 noon start at the MU Tennis Courts.
