Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-7 victory over the Otterbein University Cardinals at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday morning.
Leading the way for Transylvania was Brianna McCulley, who tallied a season-high six goals to go along with three ground balls collected and two caused turnovers, and Salem Carlow, who scored three goals, recorded two assists and tallied eight draw controls.
The victory improves Transylvania's record to 3-1 on the young season while the Cardinals fall to 0-3 overall.
The two sides traded goals in the opening three minutes of play before Transylvania went on a 6-0 run fueled by three straight McCulley goals, giving the Pioneers a 7-1 lead.
Otterbein responded with a pair of goals just before the halftime break to cut the Pioneer lead to 7-3.
Transylvania continued to showcase its offensive prowess during the second half as seven different Pioneers combined for 10 goals en route to the eventual 17-7 victory.
The Pioneers' defense was relentless throughout the day, recording 18 caused turnovers and holding the Cardinals to just 15 shot attempts in the game. Transylvania also held a 35-22 advantage in ground balls collected over Otterbein.
Up next for the Pioneers is a midweek matchup with the Aurora University Spartans on Tuesday, March 5. First draw between the Pioneers and the Spartans is set for 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
