Columbus, Ohio. – A hat-trick from sophomore midfielder Salem Carlow was not enough for the Transylvania women's lacrosse team as the Pioneers dropped a 6-5 decision to the Capital University Crusaders at Bernlohr Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Transylvania's record falls to 1-1 on the young season while the Crusaders improve to 1-0.

Along with Carlow, fellow sophomore midfielder Courtney Pontious scored twice and tallied two draw controls for the Pioneers.

Transylvania took an early 2-0 lead over Capital thanks to a pair of free-position goals from Pontious and Carlow less than four minutes into the game.

After a Crusaders goal at the 15:27 mark, the Pioneers extended their lead to 3-1 when Pontious scored her second goal of the day off of an assist from senior attack Alexis Rubin.

However, the Crusaders came storming back to score three unanswered goals in the final three minutes to end the first half with a 4-3 lead.

The Pioneers and Crusaders traded goals throughout the second half, allowing Capital to escape with the 6-5 victory.

For the game, the Crusaders outshot the Pioneers 26-18 and held a 22-18 advantage in ground balls collected.

Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Dent turned in a strong performance in net for the Pioneers as she recorded 14 saves and scooped up 10 groundballs while allowing just six goals in the Transylvania loss.

The Pioneers will continue their weekend trip through Ohio with a matchup against the Marietta College Pioneers tomorrow morning. The game is set for an 11:00 a.m. start at Marietta Field.
