North Manchester, Ind. – The Transylvania softball team wrapped up 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the team's fourth sweep of a conference opponent in seven days, prevailing 19-2 over the Manchester University Spartans in game one before cruising to an 11-1 game two victory at Spartan Softball Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers improved to 24-10 overall and 14-2 in HCAC play while the Spartans fell to 12-23 overall and 6-9 in conference play. With the sweep, Transylvania clinches the No. 2 seed in next week's HCAC conference tournament.

Leading the way for Transylvania was Brittany Mumford, who went 6-for-8 with four RBI and two stolen bases on the day. Shelby Gambrell tallied four hits and five RBI while Janelle Hynes added five hits and two RBI in the Sunday sweep.

The Pioneers sent Kameron Bowling to the circle in game one. The sophomore turned in seven strong innings of work that included eight strikeouts and just two runs allowed en route to her 14th victory of the season.

Transylvania took a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to RBI doubles from Gambrell and Alyssa Nunn, along with an Annie Schuck RBI single.

In the top of the second, Gambrell scored Mumford with a single and Hynes doubled in a pair of runs to push the Pioneers' lead to 7-0.

Leading the Spartans 9-2 in the seventh, the Pioneers took total control of the game as Mumford, Gambrell, Becca Messing, Jessica Powell, Mira Monk, Taylor Campbell, and Megan Edwards all delivered RBIs to boost Transylvania to the final 19-2 advantage.

In game two, the Pioneers extended their dominant performance from earlier in the day by recording nine hits and not committing a defensive error.

Highlighted by a Becca Messing triple, Transylvania scored six runs on four hits to take a 6-0 lead in the second inning.

The Pioneers increased their lead to 9-0 after Mumford drove in two runs with a single up the middle and Messing stole home.

Transylvania added the final two runs of the day in the bottom of the fourth when Hynes scored via a Nunn single, and Jordyn Powell came home following a Manchester error, securing the 11-1 victory.

In the circle, Jessica Gunter and Jordan Kramer combined to allow just one run and strike out a Spartan in the run-rule-shortened five-inning victory.

Up next, the Pioneers will wrap up regular-season play with a two-game home series against the DePauw University Tigers on Tuesday, April 30. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. at Hall Field.
