Indianapolis, Ind.  – The Transylvania track & field team opened their season with a trip north to Indiana for the UIndy Collegiate Challenge at the Athletic Recreational Center on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania head coach Matt Roden was pleased with the way his Pioneers came out of the gate on Saturday.

"Today our athletes were able to put all their training to the test for the first time. We saw some performances that positioned us towards the top in the conference at this point in the year while getting through the first meet jitters. Overall we were pleased with the results for our first competition and will evaluate how we can improve in our training program to allow for the improvements we know we can achieve."

Leading the way for Transylvania on Saturday was the relay team of Taylor AllenDanielle BlountLoralei Griffiths, and Kali Nolan, who placed second in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:30.40.

Transylvania distance specialist Jacob Burnam took home third place in the men's 800-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 2:00.72, the second-best time so far this season in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Rian Boelter and Jordan Upton each placed fourth in the triple jump events on Saturday. Boelter's best jump of 10.61 meters currently stands atop the HCAC.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday, January 25 when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Jessica Starks Open hosted by Capital University. The meet is set for a 9:30 a.m. start at the Capital University Field House.
