New Orleans, La. – Three members of the Transylvania track and field team have been named All-Region Honorees for the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field season by the USTFCCCA.
Taylor Allen, Rian Boelter, and Graham Smith each were selected for All-Region honors in outdoor track and field for the first time in their careers in the Sunday announcement of All-Region award winners.
Allen, a freshman from Louisville, Kentucky (Assumption HS), was selected to the All-Region Team for the Great Lakes Region for her stellar performance this season in the women's 400-meter dash event.
Allen captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference crown in the 400 meters with a program-record time of 58.72 seconds. The time granted Allen the distinction of becoming the first HCAC athlete to earn All-Region honors in the event. Allen's time was also the fastest by a freshman in the Great Lakes Region this season.
Boelter, a junior from Hebron, Kentucky (Conner HS), was named to the All-Region Team for the Great Lakes Region in the heptathlon, an event that includes the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run events.
The versatile junior has enjoyed a breakout season in several of the seven elements of the heptathlon. The junior tallied a season-high 4,119 points and a fourth-place finish in the Mount Olive First Chance meet on May 11. Her day was highlighted by a second-place showing in the javelin throw with a mark of 29.67 meters.
Boelter's spring season also included an HCAC Championship in the women's triple jump event with a school record jump of 10.87 meters. Boelter captured All-Region acclaim for the second time in 2019 after also earning All-Region honors following the 2019 indoor track and field season.
Smith, a senior from Nicholasville, Kentucky (Lexington Christian Academy), received All-Region honors for his dominant record-setting season in the men's javelin throw event.
The senior claimed his second straight HCAC outdoor title in the javelin throw with a throw of 59.47 meters, a new Transylvania record. Smith went on to shatter his record with a throw of 61.32 meters at the North Central College Gregory Invitational on May 15. Smith currently ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division III in the javelin throw.
In addition to leading the Transylvania Track & Field program to one of its most successful seasons to date, Allen, Boelter, and Smith have also delivered the Pioneers their first trio of All-Region performers in a single season in school history.
Smith will complete the Pioneers' season when he competes at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships this Thursday, May 23 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
