Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team claimed its first team win of the 2020 season with a 7-2 match victory over the Berea College Mountaineers on Tuesday evening at Top Seed Tennis Club.
The Pioneers unveiled a complete effort across the board, winning all seven matches in which they fielded a competitor. Transylvania improved to 1-4 overall on the season while Berea dropped to 0-4.
Nick and Noah McNamee led the charge from the top positions for the Pioneers as the brothers teamed up for a dominant 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles play to set the stage for a successful Tuesday.
Nick McNamee followed up on the doubles victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Michael Malpartida in the No. 1 singles competition. Noah McNamee delivered a perfect 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Christopher Malpartida in the No. 2 singles slot.
Hunter Gregg and Jack Kaufer collaborated for an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles to hand the Pioneers an early 2-1 match lead and continued solid evenings with convincing wins in singles play; Gregg won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles over Jeff Jung while Kaufer picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Joshua Sizdik in No. 5 singles.
Parker Rowton added to the team win by taking a 6-1, 6-0 win against Juan Chavez-Casiano in No. 3 singles.
Transylvania returns to action on Saturday, February 29 at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia at 11:00 a.m. as the Pioneers head to North Georgia for a pair of matches over the weekend.
