LaGrange battles past Transylvania men's tennis in singles play at Transylvania Invitational

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's tennis team opened the 2020 Transylvania Invitational with a 7-2 loss to the LaGrange College Panthers at the Top Seed Tennis Club on Friday evening.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play thanks to a thrilling 8-5 victory by the team of Hunter Gregg and Parker Rowton, followed by an exciting 8-5 win by the duo of Nick and Noah McNamee in the No. 1 doubles matchup.

LaGrange saved their largest response for singles play, totaling six straight victories in singles play to capture the 7-2 overall match victory.

Despite the loss, the Pioneers saw fierce competitive spirit from McNamee and Rowton, who each forced third sets in their singles losses. McNamee fell 7-6, 2-6, 1-6 at No. 2 singles, followed by Rowton, whose 6-3, 6-7, 3-6 loss wrapped up the night for Transylvania.

The Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the 2020 Transylvania Invitational. Transylvania will face off against the Wittenberg University Tigers at 7:00 p.m. at the Top Seed Tennis Club.
