Memphis, Tenn. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse endured an 18-7 road loss to the Rhodes College Lynx at Crain Field on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Transylvania's record to 1-1 on the season while the Lynx remain undefeated with a mark of 3-0 on the season.
Ethan Patton led the Pioneers on offense with two goals on Saturday while Quinn Fox tallied three assists in the loss. T.J. Toivonen turned in another strong performance that included 11 ground balls, five caused turnovers, and a goal.
Rhodes took control of the game early as the Lynx raced out to a four-goal lead midway through the opening quarter.
After Patton's first goal of the day for the Pioneers briefly stemmed the tide, the Lynx added two more goals to extend their lead to 6-1 at the end of the quarter.
The Pioneers opened the second quarter with a flurry of strong offensive play to make their mark upon the afternoon. Patton, Bryce Lowe, AJ Teague, and Dalton Hubbs each scored to pull Transylvania within striking distance of Rhodes at 8-5 with just under 10 minutes reaming in the half. However, the Lynx responded to the Transylvania attack with three-straight goals to end the half with an 11-5 lead.
Despite goals from Toivonen and Liam Harari, the Rhodes' offense continued to simmer as the Lynx cruised to the 18-7 victory.
Michael Webb recorded the loss in net for Transylvania as his record was reduced to 1-1 on the year. The junior collected seven saves in 30 minutes of action before giving way to Connor Haney, who collected four saves in the second half in his career debut.
Despite the loss, Transylvania outshot Rhodes 49-43 and converted on 18-of-20 clearance attempts while holding the Lynx to 21-of-29 successful attempts.
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, February 29, for a road matchup against the Wittenberg University Tigers. The game is set for a 12 noon start at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield, Ohio.
