Berea, Ohio – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team picked up an 18-10 loss at the hands of the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets at George Finnie Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Transylvania's record to 3-2 overall while Baldwin Wallace remains perfect at 4-0 on the season.
Offensively the Pioneers were led by Alex Cherry and Trenton Sneed, who each scored a pair of goals in the contest. Sneed also added an assist, scooped up three ground balls, and recorded a caused turnover.
The first quarter belonged to Baldwin Wallace as the Yellow Jackets scored eight goals in the opening 15 minutes of play and led the Pioneers, 8-2 at the end of the period.
The Pioneers bounced back in the second quarter by outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 3-2 to push the halftime score to 10-5 in favor of Baldwin Wallace.
Transylvania continued to fight throughout the second half, but the offensively skilled Baldwin Wallace side outscored the Pioneers 8-5 over the final 30 minutes of play.
Transylvania's final score of the day came via a shot by Alex Petrocelli with just eight seconds remaining on the clock. The goal was the first of the senior's career, and brought the final score to 18-10 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
The duo of AJ Teague and T.J. Toivonen provided Transylvania with a boost defensively as the pair of long stick midfielders tallied a combined 11 ground balls and caused three Baldwin Wallace turnovers in the loss.
The Pioneers will return to Lexington to open Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference play on Wednesday, March 13 as they host the Hanover College Panthers. The matchup is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
