Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team captured a thrilling 9-8 double-overtime victory over the Albion College Britons at Pat Deacon Stadium on Wednesday night.
Bearing the bulk of the offensive burden for Transylvania was Bryce Lowe. The freshman scored a career-high four goals, including the Pioneers' first three goals of the contest.
The Britons started the game on an offensive tear, outscoring Transylvania 3-0 over the course of the first quarter.
The Pioneers came storming back in the second quarter thanks to three goals from Lowe, including a strike with three seconds left on the clock that cut Albion's lead to 5-3 at the halftime break.
The third quarter belonged to the home team as the Pioneers' defense, led by T.J. Toivonen, dominated the game. Albion was unable to muster a goal while the Pioneers struck twice, including a score from Nick Bailey just 18 seconds before the end of the period that leveled the score at 5-5.
Trailing Albion midway through the fourth quarter, the Pioneers scored back-to-back goals via Bailey and Kayd Aquino to take their first lead of the game at 8-7.
However, the Britons responded with a man-up goal with just two minutes left in regulation, evening the score at 8-8 and sending the teams into overtime.
After neither team was able to manufacture a score in the first overtime period, Lowe capped off his career-performance with a game-winning goal, set up by a pass from Corbyn Buchart less than a minute into the second overtime period.
Goalkeeper Michael Webb turned in a rousing performance in net for the Pioneers. The sophomore tallied 10 saves against eight goals allowed in the 54-plus minute victory.
Up next for Transylvania is a trip to Berea, Ohio where the Pioneers will face off with the Baldwin-Wallace University Yellow Jackets. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at the Packard Athletic Center.
