Transylvania men's lacrosse outscored by Rhodes in physical affair

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's lacrosse team picked up its first loss of the season, dropping a 14-5 decision to the Rhodes College Lynx at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers' weathered an early scoring burst from the visitors, allowing the Lynx to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Then, late in the first quarter, an assist from Trenton Sneed set up Bryce Lowe for Transylvania's first goal of the day to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

In the second quarter, Rhodes extended its lead by two more goals before a fiery shot from Alex Cherry with eight seconds left in the half cut the Lynx lead to 4-2 at intermission.

The third quarter belonged to the visiting side as Rhodes flexed their offensive muscles to the tune of five goals in the period, while the Pioneers were only able to muster one score.

Lowe and Kayd Aquino scored for Transylvania late in the game before the Pioneers gave way to Rhodes by the final score of 14-5.

Sneed led the Pioneers on defense by corralling five ground balls and causing three turnovers.

For the game, Transylvania outshot the Lynx 47-43 while Rhodes held a 20-13 advantage in successful clears.

The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday, March 2 when they take on the Wittenberg University Tigers. The match is set for a 2:00 p.m. start at Pat Deacon Stadium.
