Sneed shares, Roby relentess as men's lacrosse dominates Westminster

Lexington, Ky. - The Transylvania men's lacrosse team overwhelmed the Westminster College Titans in the third quarter with a 9-0 period to capture an 18-3 victory at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers were led on offense by the trio of senior attacks Zach Roby, Clark Watts, and freshman attack Trenton Sneed.

Roby continued a stellar season with a five-goal performance. Watts scored four goals, and assisted on two more Pioneer goals, while scooping up three groundballs.

Sneed had a particularly large hand in orchestrating the Pioneers' offense, assisting on six Transylvania goals, in addition to scoring two of his own.

Along with its goal-scoring prowess, Transylvania also converted on 32 of 34 clearance attempts, putting a clean display of ball movement for a packed crowd at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The game started off with a bang, as Transylvania fell behind when the Titans scored the game's first goal just four minutes into the contest. The Pioneers responded with goals from Roby and Watts just before the end of the quarter to take their first lead of the game.

A goal by junior midfielder Josh Mesmer and a second goal from Roby pushed the Pioneer lead to 4-1 heading into the halftime break.

Transylvania came out ready to put the game away early in the third quarter. The Pioneers had their way with the Titans defense, as they scored nine goals in the period, highlighted by two from Watts and three from Roby.

The fourth quarter saw Transylvania make use of its deep bench as several Pioneers saw their first action of the day. Freshman attack Brad Clements and sophomore attack Collin Ruegg each scored in the final three minutes of the game, to push the final margin to 18-3 in favor of the Pioneers.

Senior goalkeeper Cooper Fogle continued his strong year, as he collected three saves while only giving up two goals in forty-nine minutes of action.

Next, the Pioneers will travel to Danville, Kentucky to face in-state rival Centre College in a rematch of last year's 5-3 Transylvania victory. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start at Farris Stadium.
