Transylvania men's golf takes second place at 2018 Transylvania Fall Invitational

Lexington, Ky. – Senior Jack Berger and Junior Harrison Lane led the charge for the Transylvania men's golf team in its first competition of the 2018-19 season as the Pioneers took second place out of 16 teams at the 2018 Transylvania Fall Invitational, which concluded with the third and final round on Sunday afternoon at the University Club of Kentucky.

After playing 36 holes on Saturday, the Pioneers shot a 291 team score in round three on Sunday, its second-best score of the three rounds to finish with a cumulative score of 871, one stroke ahead of Ohio Wesleyan for second place on the team leaderboard.

After entering Sunday in fourth place behind Ohio Wesleyan, Wittenberg, and Centre, the Pioneers made their move up the scoreboard, bolstered by sizzling third rounds from Berger and senior Zach Treilobs; Berger turned in a one-under par 71, matching his round one score to card a three-round total of 215. Treilobs shot a personal weekend-best two-under par 70 to finish two strokes behind Berger for 11th place on the 88-player individual leaderboard.

Lane capped off an impressive weekend with a three-over par 75 to match Berger's cumulative 215 score. Lane and Berger finished tied for fifth place among individuals after shooting one-under par for three rounds.

Freshman Sam McNamara turned in a round three 77 after shooting a 73 and 69 in the first and second rounds on Saturday to finish in the top-15 with a three-round score of 219.

Wittenberg took the team championship at the Transylvania Fall Invitational, firing a 281 team score on Sunday to finish 15 strokes ahead of second-place Transy. Gavin Dugas of Husson took first among individuals, turning in a three-round 210 to finish six-under par for the weekend.

Of the 10 Transylvania golfers who competed at this year's edition of the Fall Invitational, four finished in the top-15.

Transylvania next competes on September 17-18 down the road in Nicholasville, Kentucky at Keene Trace Golf Club for the NCAA Preview event. As the host institution for the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championships, the Pioneers will host the traditional two-round preview tournament which occurs in the fall prior to the national championship event, offering potential participating teams their first glimpse of the national championship venue.
