Greensboro, N.C. – The Transylvania men's golf team made what it hopes will be the first of multiple trips this season to the Grandover Resort and Conference Center as it wrapped up weekend play at the Tournament Town Men's Golf Preview on Monday afternoon.
Playing at the site of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, the Pioneers were led by junior Jack Berger, who posted a top-six finish on the individual leaderboard to wrap up three rounds of play on Monday.
Playing 36 holes of golf on Sunday and another 18 on Monday, Berger's round-one score of 70 galvanized his sixth-place finish, carding a three-round score of 218 to finish two-over par for the weekend.
Junior Blake Young finished in second among Pioneers players with a three-round 229 to finish 13-over par. Young's round-two 74 on Sunday marked his lowest score of the trip.
As a whole, the Pioneers finished in 14th place on the team leaderboard with a three-round score of 920. The Pioneers' second-round 302 served as their best team performance of the weekend.
Transylvania is one of four teams to have qualified for the last 11 consecutive NCAA Division III Championships. The Pioneers will participate in their conference championships in spring of 2018 for the chance to compete once more in Greensboro for the 2018 Men's Golf National Championships.
The Pioneers will wrap up the fall portion of their 2017-18 schedule with a trip to Delaware, Ohio next Sunday and Monday, October 1 and 2 to compete in the Gordin Classic at the Delaware Country Club.
