Pine Mountain, Ga. - The No. 24 Transylvania women's golf team competed in its first event of the spring season on Saturday at the Callaway Garden's Collegiate, hosted by Berry College.

Playing in their first tournament since capturing the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship last October, the Pioneers set foot upon the Callaway Gardens course on Saturday after first-round play on Friday was cancelled due to weather, condensing the event from 36 to 18 holes.

Transylvania was able to get in all 18 holes on Saturday, taking on a slew of top teams from around the Southeast.

Junior Lexie Lamar led the way for the Pioneers on Saturday, carding a 15-over-par 88 to finish in a tie for 51st on the 88-player leaderboard. Lamar made par on seven of her holes, including five on the back nine.

Junior Rachel Fine and senior Jenna Soderling each finished in a tie for 56th on the leaderboard, trailing closely behind Lamar as each turned in an 89. Fine had two pars and a birdie on the final four holes to finish off her day on a high note while Soderling came through with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Transylvania next returns to play on Friday, March 15 as the Pioneers compete in the three-day, 72-hole Jekyll Island Invitational in Jekyll Island, Georgia.
