Defiance, Ohio – The Transylvania women's basketball team unleashed its offense for a season-high output, winning 95-58 over the Defiance College Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
Sophomore guard Shelby Boyle tallied her third double-double in four games to headline four different Pioneer starters in double-digit scoring. Boyle produced 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and one steal while shooting 6-for-12 from the floor in Saturday's victory.
Senior forward Rachel Cox powered in a game-high 17 points to lead the scoring for Transylvania while adding six rebounds, three assists, four blocks, and a steal.
Transylvania outscored Defiance 25-19 in the opening quarter to set the tone for their high-scoring day, the first time this season the Pioneers have put up more than 85 points in a game.
The Pioneers' offense was unrivaled on Saturday as they shot 62.5 percent from the field for the game and 50 percent from three-point range. Transylvania outscored Defiance in all four quarters to pull away for the sizable victory.
The win elevated Transylvania's record to 18-5 overall, and 13-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with two games remaining in the regular season; the Pioneers currently hold sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Defiance dropped to 7-16 overall, and 5-11 in conference play.
Transylvania next plays on Wednesday, February 14 at Franklin College in its final away game of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Spurlock Center.
