Lexington, Ky. – Sophomore thrower Graham Smith led a select group of competitors from the Transylvania track and field team on Saturday at the Kentucky Relays, held at the UK Outdoor Track and Field complex.
Smith took first-place honors in the men's javelin event, winning with a throw of 53.59 meters, better than three meters ahead of the second-place finisher. Smith completes his 2018 season undefeated in the men's javelin.
Senior sprinter Savannah Hemmer signed off on her career with one final showing, finishing 13th in the women's 200-meter finals. Competing against sprinters from Division I schools including Cincinnati, Western Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, and Xavier, Hemmer fielded the top time of any Division III athlete in the event, crossing the line in 26.34 s.
Sophomore thrower Branden Brookfield took fourth in the men's pole vault, completing his season with a 4.10 m vault.
Sophomore Gunnar Eaton completed his season with a 45.83-meter throw in the men's hammer finals, taking eighth in the event.
The Kentucky Relays capped off the first year for head coach Taylor Throckmorton at Transylvania.
