Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw with the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers at Pat Deacon Stadium on Saturday night, a result that sends Transylvania into the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed.

The Pioneers are now unbeaten over their last seven games and wrap up their regular season with a record of 8-4-4 overall and 6-1-2 in HCAC play.

The loss drops Rose-Hulman's record to 9-6-2, and 6-2-1 in conference play, earning the Fightin' Engineers the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

The two teams combined for four shots on goal in the first half, none of which found the back of the net and score remained level at the halftime intermission.

Early in the second half, the Pioneers appeared primed to take the lead when junior midfielder Caswell Fuller found some space and blasted a shot towards goal. However, the ball bounced off the crossbar and the game remained scoreless.

The Fightin' Engineers threatened in the 85th minute but a shot from Will McGowen was saved by junior goalie Drew Grisham, sending the game to overtime.

The first overtime period came and went without either team being able to muster so much as a shot attempt.

In the second overtime period, Fuller and sophomore defender Zach Hill each sent a shot toward goal but the Rose-Hulman defense held strong and the game came to an end with a 0-0 score.

For the game, the Fightin' Engineers outshot the Pioneers 13-11 while Transylvania earned six corners in comparison to three for Rose-Hulman.

Grisham earned the draw in goal for Transylvania after tallying four saves and not allowing a Rose-Hulman goal over 110 minutes of play.

The result sets in a motion a captivating rematch of last year's sudden-death championship match between Transylvania and Rose-Hulman that saw then-freshman Garrett Dean score a match-winning goal, also in double overtime, to hand the Pioneers a 2-1 win and the HCAC tournament championship for the first time in five seasons.

This year, the Pioneers will rematch Rose-Hulman in the semifinal round of the conference tournament on Wednesday, October 31. First touch between the Pioneers and the Fightin' Engineers is set for 7:00 p.m. at Pat Deacon Stadium.
