Transylvania field hockey season concludes in SAA Semifinals vs. Rhodes

Conway, Ark. - The Transylvania Field Hockey team saw its season come to an end following a 12-0 loss to the No. 2 seed Rhodes College Lynx in the Southern Athletic Association semifinals at Warrior Turf  on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers found themselves in the SAA semifinals for the third time in four seasons following Friday's thrilling 2-1 victory over Sewanee.

Senior goalie Allyson Benz capped off a spectacular career at Transylvania by recording a career-high 28 saves in Saturday's semifinal defeat.

The Pioneers' defensive unit was tested throughout the semifinal matchup. For the game, Rhodes held a 56-5 advantage in shots taken over Transylvania, as well as a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners earned.

The Lynx offense pounced on Transylvania to start the match, taking a 4-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game.

Rhodes extended its lead to 6-0 by the 20 minute mark of the first half, a lead that the No. 2 seed was satisfied to take into the locker room at the halftime intermission.

The offensive outburst by the Lynx continued into the second half as Rhodes added six more goals to push the final tally to 12-0 in favor of the Lynx.

The Pioneers' season comes to an end with a record of 2-14, while Rhodes improves to 11-3 and will take on the No. 1 seed Centre College Colonels in tomorrow's SAA Championship game.
