Transylvania field hockey wraps up regular season with home defeat to Centre

Centre 7 Transy 0

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania field hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 7-0 loss to the Centre College Colonels at Pat Deacon Stadium on Thursday night.

Senior goalie Allyson Benz was spectacular in goal for Transylvania, recording 21 saves over 70 minutes of play in the loss. Benz continues to lead the Southern Athletic Association in saves with 188 on the season.

Centre took control of the game from the start, jumping out to a 5-0 lead while holding the Pioneers without a shot attempt in the first 35 minutes of play.

The second half followed a similar script to that of the first as the Colonels added two more goals while their defense continued to smother the Pioneers, leading to the 7-0 final.

The loss drops Transylvania's record to 1-13 overall and 0-5 in the SAA, while Centre improves to 11-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play.

The Pioneers will now turn their attention to the SAA tournament, which begins on Friday, November 2 on the campus of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. The tournament schedule will become available early next week following the completion of regular-season play throughout the rest of the conference this weekend.
